Holiday Season Update

Happy holidays!

Events happening over the Christmas break:

Friday:
No band or drill team

Sunday:
No marksmanship/biathlon

Monday:
No flying scholarship

Wednesday 28 Dec 16:
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Drill team practice. Please let Capt Hutchinson know if you are unable to make it. The senior cadets/Capt Hutchinson will be informing drill team members if practice is canceled due to low attendance.
No regular training

6 Jan 16 –
Band Practice – 1:00 – 4:30 PM at the armoury (anyone going to the hockey game should pack something for supper or bring money to eat at Harbour Station). We will be walking to Harbour Station.

Sea Dogs Hockey Game – Meet at 6:00 PM at the entrance (inside to doors to Harbour Station) to get tickets. Dress for the event will be civilian clothing. We currently have 22 tickets available for the game. A list of people currently signed up is below. Any other cadets/staff wishing to participate can contact Capt A. Phinney via e-mail or through the facebook page. We are also opening this up for cadets to bring a friend or family member (first come, first served). Please let us know if you are interested. If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible (one hour before the event is not enough time for us to find a replacement). We need to fill 50 seats.

Reminder: If a cadet cannot make it to a Wednesday night/regular event, the cadet should leave a message on the squadron answering machine 632-3215. Please do not e-mail Capt Phinney or post on facebook. This will ensure the admin o gets the message and can mark the cadet as excused.

Note: Our website is up and running. 161aircadets.ca It is currently under construction but we have started to add some helpful resources such as the IGs for instructors and the squadron handbook and standing orders. If you have a suggestion for information that should be on our website, just let one of the staff members know. We have also started a Twitter account to reach anyone that prefers access on Twitter.

Weekly Update 08-14 Dec 16

This week’s events:

Friday:
6:00 – 7:00 PM – Drill team practice
7:00 – 9:30 PM – Band practice

Saturday:
5:00 PM – Holiday Mess Dinner for all cadets. The dinner will take place at St. Columba Presbyterian Church on 1454 Manawagonish Rd, Saint John, NB. Dress for the dinner is full uniform with a white collared dress shirt and black bow tie. Any cadets who were unable to find a white shirt and would like to borrow one can contact Capt Hutchinson. Black bow ties are available for $10. If a cadet is unable to get either of these items, they should wear their regular shirt and tie with their uniform. No headdress is to be worn. Any cadets who do not yet have a uniform should wear semi-formal attire. The dinner should conclude around 8:30 PM.
Thank you to the parents who volunteered to serve dinner. Servers are asked to wear black and white (or dress clothes) and arrive between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM.

Sunday:
6:00 – 9:00 PM – Biathlon, Marksmanship, Model building, RC Flying, and Flight simulation (armoury). New cadets are welcome.

Monday:
6:30 – 8:30 PM – Flying Scholarship at Simonds

Wednesday:
6:20 – 9:10 PM – CO’s Parade – dress is shirt, tie and tunic.

This week’s events:

Friday:
6:00 – 7:00 PM – Drill team practice

7:00 PM – Ground School Weekend Gagetown – the four cadets who will be writing the GPS exam will be attending. Cadets received information sheet on Wednesday evening with details.

Saturday:
3:00 – 5: 00 PM – Bowling at Fairview Lanes (87 Lansdowne Ave Saint John – beside Sobeys North). Dress is civilian clothing. There will be pizza!

Sunday:
6:00 – 9:00 PM – Biathlon, Marksmanship, Model building, RC Flying, and Flight simulation (armoury). New cadets are welcome.

Monday:
6:30 – 8:30 PM – Flying Scholarship at Simonds

Wednesday:
6:20 – 9:10 PM – Sports Night – Dress is sports gear (shorts/athletic pants and t-shirt with sneakers)

Upcoming Events/Deadlines:

10 Dec 16 – Mess Dinner – 5:00 PM at St Columba Presbyterian Church. The meal will be a turkey dinner. Dress is uniform with a white collared shirt and black bow tie. There are bow ties available from our canteen for $10.
We are looking for a few parent volunteers to assist with serving the dinner. Please contact Capt A. Phinney if you are available to help.
