Thanks to all the parents who came out to the meeting last night. It’s great to see support for our cadet activities.

Here are the updates for the week:

Friday:
6:00 – 7:00 PM – Drill team
7:00 – 9:30 PM – Band practice

Sunday:
1:00 PM – Squadron history restoration – Parents, cadets, sponsors, staff, and alumni are welcome to help with the project. This will take place at the armoury. If you have any squadron photographs or memorabilia from years past, please let us know. This week we will be gluing photos into scrapbooks and labelling.

6:00 PM – Marksmanship, Model Building, RC Flying, and Flight Simulation

Wednesday:
6:20 – 9:10 PM – Regular Training – We are switching to summer dress (short sleeved t-shirt) but it still gets cold at night so please bring the inner layer of your parka or tunic

Many cadets received offers of participation for summer training courses. Please sign these forms and return to the squadron as soon as possible.

Duke of Edinburgh – Interested cadets were given information and registration forms at an information session last night. The program is open to cadets at least 13 ½. The program complements cadet training well and involves community service, physical fitness, skills, and an adventurous journey. Capt Dickison who works with 1691 Army Cadets will be helping us through the program. Cadets interested in joining must return their form and a $30 registration fee on Sunday evening or next Wednesday. Cadets pay the registration for the book but are refunded if they successfully complete the program. Note: On Saturday, June 3rd there will be a 75th anniversary reception for all 161 squadron alumni (former cadets, staff, parents, sponsors, or anyone with any affiliation to the squadron). Tickets are $25 and are available from the squadron office or online. Visit our website at https://161aircadets.ca/75th-anniversary/ to purchase tickets, memorabilia, or find out more information about what is happening at 161. Tickets should be purchased by May 15th. Please pass on this information to anyone you think may be interested.

Reminder: If a cadet cannot make it to a Wednesday night/regular event, the cadet should leave a message on the squadron answering machine 632-3215. Please do not e-mail Capt Phinney or post on facebook. This will ensure the admin o gets the message and can mark the cadet as excused.

Good luck to Sgt Hamilton who will be competing in the Provincial Marksmanship Competition and Sgt MacIntyre who will be competing in the Provincial Effective Speaking Competition this weekend.

Here are the updates for the week:

Friday:
NO DRILL TEAM
NO BAND PRACTICE

6:45 PM – Senior cadets attending the C7 Marksmanship training weekend/competitions in Gagetown will meet at the armoury and will be transported to Gagetown via bus/mini-van. Cadets will be wearing field training uniform in Gagetown but should bring layers of clothing to wear underneath as the range is outdoors. Bring personal toiletries, towel, shower shoes, etc. Cadets will be returning early Sunday afternoon (approximately 1:30 PM – TBC).

Sunday:

There will be an important parent information session about the trip on 26 Apr 17 around 1930 hrs following our CO’s parade. Parents of cadets attending the trip must attend.

Thanks to LAC Springthorpe for volunteering to sell league tickets last Saturday with our sponsor 250 Wing. Thanks to FSgt Caissie who represented the squadron along with Capt MacDonald and some sponsoring committee members at the Community Coordinating Committee meeting on Saturday.

Here are the updates for the week:

Friday:
NO DRILL TEAM
6:30 – 9:00 PM – Band practice

Saturday:
9:00 AM – 2:00 PM – C7 familiarization training for senior cadets (level 4+) who will be attending C7 training in Gagetown. Dress is civilian clothing. Bring a lunch.

10:00 AM – 6:00 PM – Our sponsor, 250 Wing will be selling League Tickets at Lancaster Mall. They are looking for a few cadets to help with this. If you are available for a 2 hour shift (10-12, 12-2, 2-4, 4-6), please let Capt Phinney know. Dress will be uniform (shirt, tie, and tunic). Money raised will go towards the cadet’s fund raising total.

Sunday:
1:00 – 9:00 PM – Squadron history restoration project: Cadets, parents, alumni, and staff are invited to help this Sunday as we sort through 75 years of photos, newspaper clippings, etc. The plan is to have all photos and items placed in scrapbooks for this year’s ACR. You don’t have to stay for the entire day but if you are staying all day, we will feed you.

6:00 – 9:00 PM – Recreational marksmanship, model building, RC flying, and flight simulation

Wednesday:
6:20 – 9:10 PM – Regular Training Dress is t-shirt and tunic
